Abstract:

background: low back pain (LBP) is the leading cause of disability in the world. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of acupressure on LBP intensity and depression among Chronic nonspecific LBP patients. Methods: This sham-controlled randomized clinical trial was performed on 84 patients with Chronic nonspecific LBP. The data were collected using a demographic information questionnaire, the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), and the Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II). The participants were randomly assigned to acupressure (n = 42) and sham (n = 42) groups. The acupressure group was trained on how to apply pressure on Yin tang, Feng Chi, and Shu Fu acupoints, nevertheless, the sham group was trained on how to apply pressure on Chen Jiang, Huang Shu, and Ji ache acupoints. The participants in both groups applied acupressure once a day for 4 weeks. Both groups completed the VAS and the BDI-II again one day after the intervention. Results: No significant differences in LBP intensity (P = 0. 45) and depression (P = 0. 26) were observed between the two groups before the intervention. By controlling the baseline scores of LBP and depression, analysis of covariance revealed that the LBP and depression of the acupressure group significantly improved after the intervention, compared to the sham group (P < 0. 05). Conclusions: Applying pressure on Shu Fu, Yin Tang, and Feng Chi points is effective in reducing LBP and depressionamongChronic nonspecific LBP patients. The findings of this study can be used in designing and evaluating more robust protocols.

Abstract:

Abstract:

background and aims: Patients with low back pain like other Chronic diseases, may experience psychological symptoms in addition to physical symptoms which leads to the exacerbation of the condition of these patients and reduce their quality of life. Due to lack of clinical studies in this field, this study was conducted to investigate the relationship between pain and severity of depression and anxiety in patients with nonspecific Chronic low back pain. Methods: This analytic-descriptive study was performed on 250 patients with nonspecific low back pain referring to the orthopedic clinic in Shahrekord selected by convenience sampling. Demographic questionnaire, visual analogue scale of pain, Beck Depression Inventory and Beck Anxiety Inventory were used to collect the patient’ s information, pain severity, anxiety and depression. Stata software 14 was used for data analysis. Results: Mean ± SD of pain in women was 4. 6± 1. 21 and higher than in men (4. 1± 1. 25). pain severity showed a significant difference between the groups of patients with different levels of anxiety and depression (P<0. 01). There was a significant difference among non-smokers for pain rate between the groups, according to the levels of depression (P<0. 05). Conclusion: Patients with nonspecific Chronic low back pain experience higher level of pain with increasing severity of depression and anxiety. It is necessary in treatment of patients with nonspecific low back pain to pay attention to their psychological dimensions in addition to treating physical problems to reduce pain, and take action to relieve for the modulation of anxiety, depression and quality of life in these patients.

background and Aim: Postural control is the basic part of body movement performance and is needed for many everyday activities, particularly sport activities. Several factors can adversely affect efficiency of postural control system and decrease postural stability which results in increased postural sway. Among these factors, musculoskeletal disorders such as low back pain can be mentioned. Thus the purpose of this study was to compare postural sway in athletes with nonspecific Chronic low back pain and healthy athletes.Materials and Methods: Postural sway of 68 athletes (34 nonspecific Chronic low back pain and 34 healthy individuals) was examined by Zebris force distribution system in two conditions of standing with open and closed eyes. The independent t-test was used to analyze the data and compare between groups. Results: Results showed a significant difference between athletes with nonspecific Chronic low back pain and healthy ones in standing with open and closed eyes (P £0.05).Conclusion: According to the results of this study, athletes with nonspecific Chronic low back pain showed increased postural sway in two conditions of standing with open and closed eyes in comparison with healthy athletes. Measuring postural sway of athletes with nonspecific Chronic low back pain is recommended to identify one of the most important risk factors of sport injuries in these athletes.

Abstract:

Aims and background: Reflexology is one of the new therapeutic methods for musculoskeletal disorders, especially low back pain. To achieve conclusive results in this field and also to follow up pain and functional disability afterwards, we designed this study. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of using foot reflecology for six weeks on pain and disability in male subjects with non-specific Chronic low back pain during a four-month period. Methods and materials: This experimental study included 24 male patients with non-specific Chronic low back pain, who underwent six weeks of therapy (foot reflexology) by the sports therapist. The amount of pain and functional disability were redpectively measured using visual analogue scale (VAS) and Oswestry disability index (ODI) questionnaire before, just after, and with a four months’ interval after the intervention. Data were analyzed using independent T test. The Statistical significance was resumed to be a p£0.05.Findings: Our findings showed that immediately after six-weeks of foot Reflexology, the amount of pain and functional disability in participants with non-specific Chronic low back pain was significantly decreased (p=0.001). Also, according to the results obtained after a four-month follow-up, no significant reduction in pain and functional disability in patients was found compared to the pretest values (p>0.05).Conclusions: Based on the current results, the foot reflexology method could have temporary and short-term effects on rehabilitation of subjects with Chronic low back pain. As shown the pain and disability appeared again in our patients after four months.
